Common combinations
| Project next door | Notices you may receive |
|---|---|
| Rear extension on the boundary | Line of junction (section 1) and adjacent excavation (section 6) |
| Loft conversion | Party structure (section 3) |
| Kitchen extension tied into the house | Party structure and adjacent excavation |
| Basement | Adjacent excavation, often with party structure |
Reply to each one
Each notice needs its own answer within 14 days. You can deal with them all in one letter, provided it is clear which notice each answer refers to. Our reply form produces a reply for each type.
Can my answers differ?
Yes. You might be relaxed about a new boundary wall but want a surveyor for digging close to your house. In practice, if you appoint a surveyor for one notice, it usually makes sense for them to deal with all of them.
Duplicates
Sometimes the same notice arrives twice, once by post and once by hand. Compare the dates and contents; if they are identical, one reply covers both.
Common questions
Do I need a separate surveyor for each notice?
No. One surveyor can deal with every notice arising from the same project.
One notice came weeks after the other. Is that allowed?
Yes. Each notice has its own timetable from the day it is served.
Where this comes from in the Act
